Everyone these days is doing the four-door coupe thing I suppose; BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, Porsche and Audi just to name a few. No other Japanese automotive manufacturer has done it yet, until now. Mazda has just introduced the Shinari Concept and as a large percentage of the four-door coupes go.... she's a beaut! The Mazda Shinari Concept was unveiled at a private press event held in Milan, Italy. The concept sets a precedence for the future of Mazda design and is the product of Mazda's US, German and Japanese design studios.
With new design language and the use of the four-door coupe layout, it is evident that Mazda is aiming at the premium luxury segment which is occupied by the Aston Martin Rapide, Porsche Panamera and the upcoming Fisker Karma. The Shinari Concept also resembles another Japanese automaker's concept, the Infiniti Essence Concept with it's sleek long nose, swooping fenders and sculpted rear and front ends. That isn't a bad list of company to be compared to. Mazda's new design language has coined the term as "Kodo", which in Japanese means the soul of emotion. Hopefully if and when the Shinari makes it to market, they don't take too much of the concept away from the final product. No word on what the powerplant would be like yet but a rotary motor would certainly put a smile on our faces and a frown on every Mazda mechanic on planet earth! Expect the Mazda Shinari to be unveiled publicly at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. source
