The King Is Back: BMW Unveils The 2012 F10 M5 Concept

One of the most photographed, rumored, coveted and talked about test vehicles of today has finally revealed it's flesh from under the hypnotic BMW camouflage and clever armor. The 2012 BMW F10 M5 has shown it's face ahead of it's intended destination of reveal, the Shanghai Motor Show, and we're certainly smitten with amore. To say that this vehicle is aggressive is an understatement, this thing is down right pissed off and ready to start taking back it's title without any apologies.

Although the tags read "Concept", please take this 2012 F10 M5 for precisely what it presents it self to be.... the pinnacle of Bavarian engineering, technology and years for Motorsport heritage. To put it simply, what you see is most likely what you will get, should you place your order for the upcoming F10 BMW M5. The next generation M5 will go on sale in Europe this Fall with a debut Stateside next Spring. Based on the current F10 5 Series, the 2012 M5 is full of M goodies including of course the typical M front and rear dressings, iconic M fender vents, signature quad M exhaust and massive 20-inch glossy black M wheels in a first time staggered setup.

The M5 will get it's thrust from the long rumored 4.4liter twin-turbo V8, borrowed from the X5/6 M. But please don't think for a second that BMW would let the super-suv's 555bhp fly in the M5. Rumors are that the M5 will produce near 580bhp and 560lb-ft of torque with power being sent to the rear wheels through a revised seven-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic to modify shift behavior and speed. Further rumors suggest that only North America will be receiving a 6-speed manual but we're still keeping our fingers crossed on that one as North America tends to get the short end of the stick when it comes to exclusive automotive goodies. BMW remains hush-hush on the interior and the suspension on this M vehicle but they did mention that the M5 will sport the multi-plate Active M Differential which independently deals out torque to each rear wheel based on traction, slip angle and a slew of other factors. BMW engineers are said to have learned some hard lessons from the E60 M5 and made sure to employ the highest quality of standards to the next generation F10 M5. We're looking forward to seeing the results of those hard lessons very, very soon!
